Red Rock Rovers
November 2008
1. Chapter Happenings
Our next activity is the November dinner. At the dinner we will elect
new officers. Included in the newsletter below are the names of the
proposed new officers from the nominating committee.
There is still a strong interest in membership in the chapter. We have
added several names to the waiting list and all members and waiting
list members are invited to join us for the November dinner.
Dues for 2009
Our dues for the fiscal year 2009 can and should be paid beginning at
the November dinner. The annual dues for first time members is $25 per
rig and the dues thereafter is $20. Why is there a difference?
The first year we purchase the nametags for the new members which costs
about $18 per couple. The extra $5 helps to offset that cost.
We now have a waiting list of eleven members. If you are not
planning to continue your membership in the chapter, please notify Jane
Hill (wackywedhead@msn.com or 673 3563) as soon as possible so we can
notify the waiting list members as early as possible. Any member whose
dues remain unpaid for more than 60 days shall be considered delinquent.
An obvious but important reminder is that membership in the National
FMCA is required to maintain membership in the Red Rock Rovers chapter.
Plan to bring your dues check to the dinner and give it to Jane Hill.
2. Holiday Dinner – November 18
The Chapter’s Holiday Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, November
18, at 6:00 pm. The dinner is at the Golden Corral Restaurant. A
room has been reserved for the group. Everyone will pay for their own
meal and then join together in the private meeting room for a night of
fun.
The agenda for the evening includes the following:
1. Take a few minutes to get to know each other better,
particularly the newer members.
2. Elect new officers for the chapter. Ken Seefeld and the
members of the nominating committee have nominated the individuals
listed below.
3. Review and express preferences on possible locations
for our 2009 rally schedule.
4. Have a drawing for the FMCA provided gifts.
All Red Rock Rover members and waiting list members are invited.
Waiting list members are particularly encouraged to attend to get to
know the others in the chapter.
Chapter Officers – The nominating committee has recommended the
following individuals for the offices indicated. We will take
additional nominations from the floor if anyone so desires.

3. Winter Rally – January 27 –31, 2009
– Benson, Arizona.
The dates for the Benson rally follow a few days after the Quartzite RV
show and other Quartzite events. The RV show is open from January 17
– 25. Stopping in Quartzsite will be an open and optional
event but it does fit well into the schedule. You would need to
overnight somewhere on the way to Benson and Quartzsite may be a good
option. If anyone plans to stop in Quartzsite, we can gather in the
same place we have held our traditional rally.
While in Benson, we will be staying at the Butterfield RV Resort and
Observatory. It is a quality park. You can find out more about the
resort by linking to their webpage at www.rv-resort.com.
It is now time to call and make your reservation. They are holding 18
sites for us and we will have to release any unused sites a month
before the rally. Twelve rigs have already made their
reservation. The phone number for reservations is 800 863 8160.
There is a group rate of $30 per day. Mention that you are with the Red
Rock Rovers group. The group rate will be extended for two days before
and after the rally dates if you wish to stay longer.
There are numerous options for activities in the Benson area including;
* Taking a day trip to notorious Tombstone, Arizona
* Touring Kartchner Caverns – One of the most
beautiful limestone caves in America.
* Taking a day trip to the historic mining
town of Bisbee, Arizona
* Visiting the Saguaro National Park
Another reservation needs to be made now if your are planning the cave
tour. The Kartchner Caverns State Park is truly a one-of-a-kind
wonder. We will designate Thursday, January 29, as Cave Day. That
is the date to schedule your cave tour. Make your reservation for
a morning tour if possible. You have to be at the cave an hour in
advance so a tour time around 10:00 a.m. would be perfect.
Check out the caverns at www.explorethecaverns.com/cave.html. The
homepage for the caverns is www.explorethecaverns.com. The
caverns have two different tours available. The preferred tour is the
Rotunda/Throne Room tour which lasts 1 ½ hours and leaves every
20 minutes. Only 15 individuals are allowed in each tour group so it
will be impossible to schedule our whole group on any single
tour. You may also wish to schedule both the Rotunda Tour and the
Big Room Tour. They are totally different tours to different
locations. The Big Room tour is new and opened recently.
The cave tours are so popular they are booked up 4 to 6 months in
advance. It will be necessary for each rig to call and make your
reservation as soon as possible. Information about the different
tours and booking the tours is available at
http://www.pr.state.az.us/parks/parkhtml/kartchner.html. You can
