1.   Chapter Happenings

The Winter Rally was a real mixture of circumstances. Yes, it rained every day but the rain was not constant and there were sufficient breaks to allow for all of the planned activities. The club house was the gathering for all of our meal activities and with a few adjustments in schedule, we visited Balboa Park and its 14 museums, toured the USS Midway, visited the other historical and scenic areas and a chosen 25 toured the nuclear submarine.

We would all have appreciated less rain but most expressed the conclusion that the rally was a success. Five member rigs attended a chapter rally for the first time.

Photos of the rally are available now on the chapter webpage at www.redrockers.org. Click on the photo to enlarge it.

 The Chapter membership Status

At the meeting, the members in attendance voted to approve the amendment to the membership bylaws. The membership cap is now at 35. We have 36 members, which will be reduced to 35 by attrition.  New prospective members will be invited to join us at a rally to introduce them to Chapter living. If they are then interested, they will be placed on a waiting list.

 2.   FMCA International Convention – March 20 – 25, 2010

The next planned chapter rally will be blended with the FMCA international rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sixteen rigs currently are registered to attend. You can still join with the group and we encourage you to do so.

The FMCA International Convention is planned for March 22– 25 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Balloon Festival Park. Our Chapter will meet up on Saturday, March 20, at 10:00 am in the ‘holding area’.  Directions are in the packets you receive upon registration.

The international conventions are significant events with large exhibit areas, numerous seminars, top-flight entertainment, and large motorhome exhibits.  Two or three thousand coaches will attend.

Our chapter has agreed to accept a volunteer assignment at this International Rally. Our assignment will be as drivers for the handicapped golf carts.

As these conventions are international in scope, we seldom have the opportunity to attend in a nearby location. You will begin seeing notices of this convention in the FMCA magazine.

You can register at any time.  You can register in three ways:

·        Go online to www.fmca.com and follow the links to the registration area for the International convention.

·        Send in the form in your FMCA magazine with your check.

·        Telephone the National FMCA office.

Register for the general generator option. After you have registered, make sure you email or phone Bruce Cass so he can put you on the volunteer list. (bbcwal@gmail.com  or 801 209 5154)

As volunteers, we will park in a separate area. To keep everyone together, we should all plan on volunteering. The commitment is minor. Generally, a three-hour shift a day is all that is expected. There will be plenty of time for the volunteers to get involved in all of the other activities.

The Chapter will plan a 4:00 pm social gathering each day to visit, arrange for getting together for the evening entertainment, and see what everyone has discovered. It will also be a time to coordinate our volunteer schedules. The chapter will provide snacks.

Some Traveling Suggestions: Since we will need to be in the holding area by 10:00 am on Saturday, you will need to camp nearby on Friday evening. The High Desert RV Park (www.highdesertrvpark.net) is a great option. Many in the group will park there. Staying in a full hookup park the evening before will allow everyone to empty the holding tanks and fill up with water.  There are no hookups in the balloon park.

Our first official volunteer meeting will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday. It is a briefing session.

There is entertainment each night beginning on Sunday and ending on Thursday. Also on Thursday evening will be a “Balloon Glow”. You can read more about the entertainment at the following link:  http://www.fmca.com/index.php/conventions/albuquerque/2923-evening-entertainment .

 3.   Couer d’Alene, Idaho – July 7 – 12, 2010

They have a fully equipped clubroom we can use for our rally, wireless internet, and cable TV.

Reservations are at the Winding River Resort Village in Grand Lake, Colorado. Grand Lake is the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and the campground is only a short distance from the National Park entrance. It is a high mountain scenic location with several large bodies of water.  The headwaters of the Colorado River are in this area.

We can pursue several activities, including:

·        Drive over the Rocky Mountains through the National Park on the Trail Ridge Road. (see the following site for details about this scenic road - http://www.rmnp.com/RMNP-Areas-TrailRidge.HTML )

We have reservations for eight full hook-up sites and seven electric and water back-in sites. The full hookup sites are 40 by 60 ft.  The back-in sites are smaller. Each individual will be responsible for calling the RV Park and making your own reservation. When you call, tell them you are with the Red Rock Rovers. The full hookup sites will be $36 a night with the 10% group discount. The water/electric   back-in sites will be $32.40. Make your reservations by calling 800 282 5121.

The resort host indicates that September is generally a dry month on the western side of the Rocky Mountains and we will not have snow that early. The full fall colors will not come until mid September but turning will be occurring at the higher elevations. We will also provide directions to avoid the worst of the high mountain climbs. You can find out more about the RV Park at www.windingriverresort.com .
