1.   Chapter Happenings

The Spring Picnic proved to be a very enjoyable event. Forty-eight individuals participated and the food was great. It was a very relaxing, enjoyable evening with some great folks. Thanks to all who made it happen.

At our next rally, we are initiating a new activity. We have some very talented individuals as members with expertise in various fields. We will plan to schedule a member seminar for an hour on a topic of interest. We will be asking for ideas and volunteers to conduct the seminar.

In Idaho, we have asked Dr. Randall Labrum to be our first seminar presenter. Randy’s topic will be “Solving Lower Back Problems”.  This will be an opportunity for the group to discuss the topic and learn from a professional in the field.

2.   Couer d’Alene, Idaho – July 7 – 12, 2010

The summer rally is scheduled for Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the Blackwell Island RV Park. This park is a posh top rated park at the outlet of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The park is located on the Spokane River with a 500 ft beach area. All of the sites are grassy and are 45 ft wide and 60 ft or more in length. They have a fully equipped clubroom we can use for our rally, wireless internet, and cable TV.

You can find out more about the RV Park by going to their webpage at www.idahorvpark.com .

This is a very busy tourist area during the summer months. We have reserved 24 full-hookup sites. Each rig will pay individually when you check in. The cost per night is $42.39, which includes all taxes and a 10 % group discount.

If you want to add additional days before or after the rally, please let Gary Watts know ASAP. The group rate would apply.

Thursday, July 8 – A trip to Wallace

Wallace was the richest Silver mining area in the United States. The mines are now closed but the flavor of the past is still present in this old town carved into the side of a mountain. The town has many attractions but we are planning on three highlights. They are as follows:

 ·         Sierra Silver Mining Tour – The old mine offers an underground tour. They can handle our whole group. The group rate for the tour is $9 a person. You can read about the tour at http://www.silverminetour.org/page2.html .

 ·         Oasis Bordello Museum – Not much needs to be said about this potential stop. If you want to know more, click on the following link: http://www.visitidaho.org/thingstodo/museums/oasis-bordello-museum.aspx .

 ·         Sixth Street Melodrama – Wallace has an old ‘hiss and boo’ melodrama. This could round out our day in this famous silver mining area. The melodrama schedule has not been released yet for this summer but the show starts at 6:30 pm. It would be a great activity after a dinner in Wallace and before we head back to Couer d’Alene.

Friday, July 9 – Couer d’Alene Lake Day – There are several options for experiencing this beautiful lake. We are exploring a commercial Lake tour and also the possibility of renting several pontoon boats for an exclusive group event. We will plan to pack a lunch and enjoy the water. The afternoon will be free to visit the town of Couer d’Alene or just relax on the beach at the RV campground.

 ·         Dinner own your own

3.   Grand Lake, Colorado – September 6 – 10, 2010

Following the posh resort setting of the Coeur d’Alene summer rally, we are going to stay at a rustic mountain setting for the Fall Rally.

Reservations are at the Winding River Resort Village in Grand Lake, Colorado. Grand Lake is the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and the campground is only a short distance from the National Park entrance. It is a high mountain scenic location with several large bodies of water.  The headwaters of the Colorado River are in this area.

We can pursue several activities, including:

·         Drive over the Rocky Mountains through the National Park on the Trail Ridge Road. (see the following site for details about this scenic road - http://www.rmnp.com/RMNP-Areas-TrailRidge.HTML )

·         Take a hayride

·         Take a pontoon boat tour of Grand Lake

·         Play Disk golf course on site in the RV Park

·         Playing horseshoes on site

We have reservations for eight full hook-up sites and seven electric and water back-in sites. The full hookup sites are 40 by 60 ft.  The back-in sites are smaller. Each individual will be responsible for calling the RV Park and making your own reservation. When you call, tell them you are with the Red Rock Rovers. The full hookup sites will be $36 a night with the 10% group discount. The water/electric   back-in sites will be $32.40. Make your reservations now by calling 800 282 5121.

The resort host indicates that September is generally a dry month on the western side of the Rocky Mountains and we will not have snow that early. The full fall colors will not come until mid September but turning will be occurring at the higher elevations. We will also provide directions to avoid the worst of the high mountain climbs. You can find out more about the RV Park at www.windingriverresort.com .
